NEW high speed HDMI 2.1 active optical cable

Just like the HDMI 2.0 AOC version that we have already presented in a previous article SEE NEWS the NEW high-speed HDMI 2.1 active optical cable also uses fiber optic technology to carry the HDMI digital signal.

This allows the signal to be carried much further than with traditional copper cable (up to 70 m) and reduces the risk of EMI/RFI interference.

This new HDMI 2.1 AOC model stands out:

The name AOC (Active Optical Cable) means that it is an active cable. Therefore, the cable makes use of an auxiliary integrated circuit (chipset). Specifically, in each of the two connectors of which the cable is made up there is a chipset, which is where both the fibre optic conductors that transmit the video and audio signals and the copper conductors for the power supply and other signals are connected.

The chipset in the connectors has at the input the function of transforming the electrical signal into a fibre optic signal, based on the sending of light pulses. At the output, the chipset has the reverse function of transforming the fibre signal into an electrical signal. This is the reason why the AOC HDMI cables are unidirectional with one connector that must always be connected to the emitter (source) and another one that is always connected to the receiver (display).

The construction of the cable is hybrid, combining fibre optic and copper. It consists of 4 fibre optic conductors that transmit high speed, video and audio signals. In addition, it contains 7 copper conductors to transmit the control and power signals.

Being able to transmit 8K signals at 60 fps up to 70 meters, it is perfect for long video distances using HDMI-SDI converters. It converts the SDI signal into an HDMI video signal and/or vice versa by using external converters. It is the ideal solution for connecting devices with HDMI output (computers, HDMI cameras...) to professional SDI equipment. Also to connect two SDI equipment by means of two HDMI-SDI converters using the HDMI cable to transport the signal during the long haul.

OM3 multimode fiber optics improved over the AOC 2.0 HDMI version to handle the 48 Gbps bandwidth required by the AOC 2.1 HDMI with minimal attenuation.
