3G and 4K SDI BNC connectors

We would like to introduce the new series of 3G-SDI BNC connectors offered by Emelec ViasCom for the transmission of high definition signals (HD-SDI and 3G-SDI) and 4K connectors specially designed for the transmission of ultra high definition signals (6G-SDI and 12G-SDI).

These are custom designed connectors for our range of SDI digital video coaxial cables. This makes the connection performance as optimized as possible to achieve signal transmission with minimum insertion loss generated by the connector.

Which connector will best suit my needs? It depends on the cable that will be used to make the connection and the SDI signal. For high definition the BNC 3G will be used and for higher resolutions such as ultra high definition the BNC 4K is recommended.

Below we explain their characteristics and show you the different connectors available in each of the two ranges.

Description of the BNC connectors for SDI signals

The BNC connectors offered by Emelec are crimp-on assembly for coaxial cables and consist of 3 pieces.

The pin, made of brass and gold-plated, is crimped directly onto the cable conductor in the same way whether the cable is single or multi-core.

The body is made of brass and fully nickel-plated in the 3G version or with the outer conductor contact gold-plated in the 4K version. It snaps onto the pin at the front and separates the insulation from the screen cable to make contact with the screen at the back.

The bushing, made of brass and nickel-plated, is responsible for improving the contact between the screen and the outer conductor of the connector and immobilizing it by sticking to the cable cover. In this way, the connector is fixed to the cable, protecting it from possible pulls.

All of them are designed, besides to transport the most demanding SDI signals such as HD-SDI and 3G-SDI defined by SMPTE 292m and SMPTE 424m standards respectively, with a bitrate that reaches up to 1.5 Gbps in HD-SDI and 3 Gbps in 3G-SDI, as well as for the lower definition ones governed by SMPTE 259m standard and with a bitrate that varies between 143 and 360 Mbps.

In addition, 4K-UHD series BNCs are also prepared to transport 6G-SDI and 12G-SDI ultra high definition signals with 6 Gbps and 12 Gbps bitrates, respectively, and defined in SMPTE 2081 and SMPTE 2082 standards.
